Nope, it's all in your head. Whether the gun is on the left or right, your skills are what matter. Just pick what feels right and grind those skills.

Actually, yes! I switched to left-hand mode and my gameplay improved. It was less cluttered on the right side, so tracking enemies became easier for me. Might be a personal thing, but it definitely made a difference.
