Nope! CS:GO wasn't always free. It actually started out as a paid game when it was released back in 2012. Valve flipped the switch to free-to-play in December 2018, which was a pretty big deal at the time. Now everyone can jump in without spending a dime!

Absolutely not. CS:GO took the free-to-play leap in late 2018, which was a major shift from its initial release. So if you've been out of the loop for a while, that's why you're seeing a bigger crowd these days.
