They come back when you tell them to, easy peasy. Just hit the recall button, and they'll start heading home, taking half the time they were out. Been out for 10 hours? They'll be back in 5.

Explorers in Fallout Shelter don't have a set return time, since it depends on how far they've ventured and their condition. If you sent them out well-equipped, they could be out for hours or even days. The game gives you the option to recall them anytime, but the return trip takes exactly half the time they've been out. So, if they've explored for 12 hours, they'll need 6 hours to come back.

Honestly, just keep an eye on their health and supplies. If they're low, time to recall. They'll take their sweet time coming back though, half of whatever time they spent out in the wasteland.

Too long if you ask me. I always forget to check on them, and they end up wandering for days!
