How to check if a Pokemon card is 1st edition

Easy peasy! Just look on the card, right below the character image on the left side. If it's a 1st Edition, you'll see a little symbol that looks like "Edition 1". Can't miss it if it's there!

Just flip that card and check the left side under the picture. No symbol, no first edition. Simple!

Honestly, it's not that big of a deal. Most folks can't tell the difference, and unless you're super into collecting, any edition is cool.
