Just hit Q (PC), RB (Xbox), or L1 (PS). VATS = easy mode on.

Truth be told, VATS makes you feel like a wasteland wizard. Aim, slow time, pick your part, and watch the magic happen. Couldn't imagine taking on a Deathclaw without it.
