Just use bombs! Find the Crimson Hearts in the Crimson biome caves and throw a few bombs their way. After the third one breaks, the Brain of Cthulhu will show up, ready to battle. This method saves you the trouble of getting too close to the hearts.

lol just spawn it with an item. If you're not into breaking Crimson Hearts, craft a Bloody Spine using 15 Vertebrae at a Crimson Altar, and you can summon the Brain of Cthulhu anywhere in the Crimson biome. Way easier if you ask me.

Actually, breaking Crimson Hearts is a waste of time. Just explore the Crimson and fight off the enemies till you get enough Vertebrae to craft the Bloody Spine. It's a more reliable method to summon the Brain of Cthulhu when you're actually prepared for the fight.
