Honestly, it's simpler just to send your buddy some Steam digital gift card cash instead. Lets them pick exactly what they want, be it a CS:GO key or whatever else catches their eye on Steam.

Done it before! Just make sure your friend's Steam profile settings allow them to receive gifts. Some folks have their settings locked down and it can bounce back, so maybe do a quick check-in before you try to surprise them.
