Just plug in the controller and dive right in! CS:GO isn't really designed for controller play, so you'll be at a disadvantage against mouse and keyboard players.

I've tried playing with an Xbox One controller and honestly, it's not the best experience. You can do it, but aiming is way harder. If you're just playing casually, go for it. If you're looking to be competitive, stick to mouse and keyboard.
