Just use the Steam overlay option, dudes. Go to Steam settings > In-Game and check the box for 'In-game FPS counter'. Choose where you want it to show up on your screen. Voila, no need to mess with console commands.

cl_showfps 1. Easy peasy. That's it.

Oh, super simple! Just open the console in-game by pressing the tilde key (~), and then type in 'cl_showfps 1'. This command turns on the FPS display, so you can track how smooth your game is running. If you wanna hide it again, just type 'cl_showfps 0'. Remember, the console has to be enabled in your game settings first!

Personally, I prefer using third-party software like FRAPS or the Nvidia overlay for a more detailed FPS count. Gives you more insight than the basic in-game counter.
