just make sure ur with the minutemen and have done enough quests for them. Defend the Castle will pop up when you're ready. It's a big battle, so prep well!

Honestly, folks overcomplicate it. Be part of the Minutemen, do their quests, and 'Defend the Castle' will find you. If you're not seeing it, you haven't played enough of their storyline.
