Just use the Steam overlay option, it's way simpler. Shift+Tab to open the overlay, go to 'Settings', then 'In-Game' and check the 'In-Game FPS counter'. You can even choose where it shows on your screen.

Steam overlay method is the best. Been using it for years, and it's perfect because it works for all games, not just CS:GO.

Super easy! Just open the console in CS:GO (you might need to enable it first in the game settings under 'Game Settings' > 'Enable Developer Console'). Once it's open, type 'cl_showfps 1' and press Enter. Voila! Your FPS should now be displayed in the corner of your screen. If you ever want to turn it off, just type 'cl_showfps 0'.
