Honestly, just play with the settings. 'cl_radar_scale' in the console is your best friend. Lower numbers = more zoom out. Find what works.

'cl_radar_always_centered 0' also helps by not centering the radar on your position, giving you a better overall view of the map. Combo that with 'cl_radar_scale' adjustments and you're golden.
