It's just Valve slapping on a new number. Played both, and CS:GO 2 feels pretty much like the CS:GO we’ve always known, just with some tweaks.

Yeah, CS:GO 2, often just called CS2, is more like a major update or an overhaul of the original Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. They basically took everything we love about CS:GO, polished it, added some new stuff, and called it CS2. It's the same game at heart but with a lot of improvements that make it feel fresh and new.
