You can't do 3-player split screen in Fortnite. Only 2-player split screen is available.

Nope, Fortnite only supports 2-player split screen on consoles. For three players, you'll need separate devices.

As someone who tried this last weekend, I can confirm that Fortnite only allows 2-player split screen. We had to use another console for our third player!
