Nope, you don't need Xbox Game Pass to play Minecraft. You can purchase Minecraft separately from the Microsoft Store or other retailers.

From personal experience, I can confirm you can buy Minecraft as a standalone game. Xbox Game Pass is just a bonus if you want other games too!
