Nah, if you're only interested in the single-player campaign, you don't need Xbox Live. But for multiplayer, it's a must.

As someone who's logged way too many hours in Battlefield 5, lemme tell ya, you absolutely need Xbox Live Gold for the multiplayer battles!

Yep, you need Xbox Live Gold to play the multiplayer stuff in Battlefield 5. Single-player campaigns don't require it, though.
