Mortal Kombat 8 doesn't exist, actually! The series went from Mortal Kombat: Armageddon (MK7) directly to Mortal Kombat (MK9), which has an awesome story mode.

There's no Mortal Kombat 8. They skipped it and rebooted the series with Mortal Kombat (2011), which has an incredible story mode!
