Facebook's active status is generally pretty accurate, but sometimes it might show someone as active when they aren't. It's usually due to background processes and app refreshes.
Not always super accurate. Sometimes it claims I'm active even when I'm just sleeping with the app open on my phone.
From my experience, Facebook's active status is good most of the time, but occasional hiccups happen.
