You can't block groups directly, but you can leave the group and stop notifications. Just visit the group, hit 'Joined' and select 'Leave Group'. Use the same menu to turn off notifications before you leave!
Just leave the group, and you're good to go! No need for anything fancy.
Here's a trick: Instead of blocking, just unfollow the group. You won't see any posts from it in your feed, but you can still stay a member.
To block a group, visit its page, click the three dots, choose 'Report Group', and follow the steps. Facebook will take care of the rest.
