Why bother? If you have nothing to hide, keep it public!
Hop onto your profile, click 'Friends,' find the little pencil (edit) icon, and switch the privacy setting to 'Only Me.' Friends list privacy achieved!
Just head to your profile, find the 'Friends' section, hit the 'Manage' button (might look like a pencil), and change visibility to 'Only Me.' Boom, you're done!
