All you gotta do is press the 'interaction' button when you're near the ground or stationary. For PC, that's 'X.' Easy peasy.
From my personal experience, the most common mistake is trying to exit the Archwing while moving. Make sure you're near the ground or stationary first, then hit the 'interaction' button!
