Leaving the group is a surefire way to hide it permanently. Just head to the group page, click on 'Joined', and select 'Leave Group'.
You can just snooze the group notifications by clicking the bell icon in the group's page. This way, you won鈥檛 get flooded with posts, but can still check them out whenever you feel like.
