Getting the Nightmare Pickaxe in Terraria is all about embracing your inner demon miner. First, you gotta beat the Eater of Worlds if you're in a Corruption world (or the Brain of Cthulhu in a Crimson world, but you're after the Eater here for the materials). This big worm drops Shadow Scales, and you'll also need to mine some Demonite Ore, which is scattered around the Corruption biome. Once you've got those, head over to an Iron or Lead Anvil and craft it. You need 12 Demonite Bars and 6 Shadow Scales. Happy mining!
Nightmare Pickaxe isn't worth the hassle. Pre-Hardmode tools are so yesterday. Aim for Hardmode gear ASAP.
