If you're on PC, you can mute Undertale by right-clicking the volume icon in your taskbar, selecting 'Open Volume Mixer,' and then muting the game from there.

Just hit the volume keys on your device and turn it all the way down—that should do the trick!

You can always kill the sound in-game by going to the options menu and turning the volume sliders all the way down.
