Just go through Classic Mode with Fox and you'll unlock Wolf. Trust me, it's worth it!
Took me forever, but I unlocked Wolf by playing through World of Light. It's a bit of a journey but you get to experience the whole story mode!
Easy peasy! You can unlock Wolf by beating Classic Mode with Fox or any character in his unlock tree. Otherwise, keep playing Versus mode; he'll challenge you eventually!
