Flowey is actually Asriel Dreemurr after he absorbed the human souls and died, losing his ability to feel love and compassion. It's like a twisted, flower form of him!

Flowey basically is Asriel without feelings. When Asriel died, he lost his soul, then got reborn as a flower thanks to Alphys's experiments.

Hot take: Asriel is only Flowey in the same way that a zombie is a former human. Take that how you will.

Asriel became Flowey when he was resurrected without a soul, leaving him with a lack of empathy and emotions. So yeah, same guy, different form!

From first-hand experience playing Undertale, Flowey's true identity as Asriel was a real plot twist! Asriel lost his soul after dying and became Flowey, the flower with no emotions.
