Easy peasy! Just grab some coal from your inventory and left-click it while aiming at the smelter. Coal in, metal out!

Put the coal in your hotbar and press the corresponding number while aiming at the smelter. Rocket science? Nah, Valheim science!

You can either make coal from burning wood in a Charcoal Kiln or by burning food. Once you have it, just approach your smelter and press E to add it.

Adding coal to the smelter is simple: walk up to the smelter and press E with the coal in your inventory. Done and dusted.
