Go to Settings > Audio and adjust the SFX volume. That should make the footsteps stand out more.

Use headphones! Seriously, it makes a huge difference in hearing footsteps clearly.

You might want to turn down the music volume and then crank up the sound effects. Helps a lot!

Footsteps too quiet? Mess with your device's sound settings. Sometimes the game audio settings just aren鈥檛 enough.
