Purification Powder is your friend if you're not looking to make a mess with explosives or spend time crafting. Buy it from the Dryad, sprinkle it on the Ebonstone, and mine it with any pickaxe. Super easy and less destructive.
Don't bother mining Ebonstone early on. Work on your equipment first or find a different route. It's not worth the hassle without the right tools.
