Mac user here. Use AirPlay from the menu bar and select your Roku TV. Works like a charm for me every time!
Just use the Miracast feature if your laptop supports it. Check your settings, find your Roku, and cast away. Done and done.
On Windows 10? Just use 'Project' from the Action Center and select 'Connect to a wireless display' to find your Roku. Easy peasy.
