To change Mario's color in Super Mario 64, you gotta use a ROM hack or a GameShark/Action Replay code. Vanilla game doesn't allow for color changes by default.

Sorry, no way to change Mario's color in the original Super Mario 64 without using mods or cheat devices!

I've used a ROM hack called 'Super Mario 64 Colorful Coins' that lets you change Mario's color based on the coins you collect. Super fun and adds a new twist to the game!
