It's all about the Switch profile, baby! Change your nickname there, and your Splatoon 2 name changes too.

To change your name in Splatoon 2, you'll actually have to change your Nintendo Switch user profile name. Just go to your Switch's System Settings, select "Users," choose your profile, and select "Nickname" to update it. Easy as changing a shirt in the game!
