Honestly, using a mouse and keyboard with an Xbox 360 is pretty much just good for typing messages and navigating menus. Don't expect to play Halo with it.

To connect a mouse and keyboard to your Xbox 360, just plug them into the USB ports. Keep in mind, though, it's not gonna turn your Xbox into a PC gaming rig. It's mainly for text input.
