Just smash the X/Square button as if your in-game life depends on it... because it does.

It's super easy, just press the button for your platform (Square for PS, X for Xbox, and left mouse for PC) once you're in the air. But, make sure you actually have a parachute first! I learned that the hard way... RIP to my character who splatted because I forgot to grab one.
