I always go old school. If you're on a console, just boot up MK1 and you'll be prompted to download the patch if there's a new one. Easy peasy.

For PC, launch Steam, head to your library, right-click on Mortal Kombat 1, and select 'Properties.' Go to the 'Updates' tab and make sure 'Always keep this game up to date' is selected. You'll get the latest patch automatically.
