Finding iron in Terraria is all about spelunking! You gotta dive into the underground and explore caves. Iron ore looks like grey stone with brownish spots. Just use your pickaxe to mine it. Don't forget to craft a furnace with stone, wood, and torches so you can smelt the iron ore into iron bars for crafting. Happy mining!

Dig, dig, and dig some more! Iron's pretty common once you start exploring the underground layers. Just keep an eye out for those brown speckled rocks. Sometimes, you can also find large deposits in the stone layers just below the surface. Good luck!

Pro tip: If you're really struggling to find iron, try using a Spelunker Potion. It makes ores glow, making them way easier to spot when you're exploring underground. You can craft these potions with bottled water, a blinkroot, a moonglow, and a gold/platinum ore.

Actually, depending on the world you're in, you might not find iron at all. Terraria worlds generate with either iron or lead, but not both. If you're finding lots of lead, that's your iron equivalent in that world. So, mine lead if you can't find iron!
