Just ask them for their usernames at the end of the match. Direct approach works best. Plus, you make a conscious connection rather than stalking through a list.
Easiest way to find recent players? Check the 'Friends' tab in the game lobby. There's a section called 'Recently Played'. Bada bing, bada boom, you've got your list. Remember though, sometimes it's a bit buggy and might not update instantly.
