Go into Steam Settings > Controller > General Controller Settings and make sure your controller configuration is set up correctly. Geometry Dash can be finicky with unrecognized controllers, so setting it up through Steam directly can sometimes give it the nudge it needs.

Make sure your controller drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers can cause all sorts of problems, not just with Geometry Dash but with any game really. Head over to the manufacturer's website and check for any updates.

Had the same problem! Try unplugging and then replugging your controller. If that doesn't work, restart Steam in Big Picture mode, and make sure Geometry Dash is set to use the controller in the game settings. Sometimes Steam needs a reminder!
