Moon Stones in Terraria drop from Vampires during the Solar Eclipse event! Make sure you're well-prepped because these events can be pretty tough. The event happens randomly after defeating the Mechanical Bosses, so keep an eye on the sky, and once it goes dark during the day, get ready for vampires and, with some luck, your Moon Stone!

Honestly, I found getting the Moon Stone a bit overrated. It's all about how you use your gear. But yeah, kill vampires during a Solar Eclipse if you really want it.
