Open Discord, click the gear icon for settings, find the 'Game Overlay' tab, enable it, then ensure TF2 is listed and checked in 'Registered Games'. Go forth and multitask!
All you gotta do is open Discord, bop over to User Settings, hit up Game Overlay, turn it on, and BAM! TF2 listed. You're good to go!
Good news: Discord overlay works out of the box with TF2. Make sure it's turned on in Discord settings under 'Game Overlay' and that TF2 is recognized.
