You can earn gems by completing tasks and challenges, but if you want the fastest route, participate in events and summon for duplicates to level up for bonus gems.
Honestly, just save up from daily rewards and focus on completing the Infinite Mode, which can yield a good amount of gems if you reach higher waves.
