How to Get Obsidian in Terraria
Getting obsidian in Terraria is pretty straightforward but does require a bit of prep. First, you gotta find water. Next, find some lava. Then, lead the water to the lava or vice versa. When water touches lava, it turns into obsidian. Make sure you have at least a Nightmare/Deathbringer Pickaxe or better to mine it, or you'll be there all day hitting rocks and getting nothing.

Quick tip: Just dump water over lava lol. Obsidian, done.
Honestly, getting obsidian is the easy part; keeping yourself from getting toasted while mining near lava is the real challenge. Always have an Obsidian Skull or an Obsidian Skin Potion handy unless you like living dangerously.
Water + Lava = Obsidian. Make sure your pickaxe game is strong, or go home. That's Terraria 101.
