To get out of story mode in GTA 5, simply bring up the pause menu and navigate to the 'Online' tab. From there, you can select 'Go Online' to jump into GTA Online. This switches you out of story mode without any hassle. Remember, your game saves automatically, so you don't have to worry about losing any progress!
