Honestly, just put your pet in stasis and let it chill there. No need for anything drastic.
You'll need to head to your Orbiter's Incubator. From there, you can choose to 'Put Pet in Stasis' and then permanently delete it if you really want to. It's a bit harsh on the feels, but it gets the job done!
Why would you want to get rid of your furry (or scaly) friend?! If you must, though, use the Incubator in your Orbiter, put your pet in stasis, and then choose to delete it.
