Honestly, just keep a well-stocked Infirmary and you're golden. Healing items are great but the Infirmary is essential.
To heal someone in State of Decay 2, make sure you have medical supplies like bandages or painkillers in your inventory. Equip the supplies and use them on the injured survivor by opening the character menu and selecting 'Use Item'.
