You need to adjust the 'Graphics Quality' in the options menu to a higher setting. Higher settings will increase the render distance and make your underwater adventures even more awesome!
Honestly, just crank up all the graphics settings to max and see if your computer can handle it. If it can't, well... you tried!
I've had luck by adjusting the 'Water Quality' and 'Terrain Streaming' options as well. Makes things look pretty nice down there!
