Use the Stealth Affinity Boost. If you go stealthy and your pet doesn't alert enemies, you'll get additional XP. I leveled up my Kavat this way in no time.
Actually, the best way to level up pets is by equipping them with the Fetch mod. More loot equals more action, and more action equals more XP.
Run high-level missions with your pet. The more enemies you defeat, the faster they level up. Try survival or defense missions for steady action.
