From personal experience, make sure everyone enters the matchmaking key correctly. Trust me, one typo and your squad will be in different games.
Private matches are for creators and community events; without access, you can't host them.
If you want to host a private match, you need to be an Epic Games Partner or have a special event code.
Enter your custom matchmaking key before readying up. Everyone in your party needs the same key to join.
