It's pretty simple! Just open your inventory, select the chest, and then click on the spot where you want to place it. Make sure there's nothing blocking the space, or it won't let you put it down. Also, remember you can't place it on the town square tiles.

Just a heads up - once you place a chest, you can't move it unless it's empty. Learned that the hard way! Make sure you're happy with the spot before you commit.
