Check your 'Message Requests' in Facebook Messenger. Sometimes legit messages get filtered there. Also, don't miss the 'Filtered Messages' section!
I've done this, and it's easy! Open Messenger, tap your profile pic, go to 'Message Requests,' and explore 'You May Know' and 'Spam.'
